A Dorchester firm that drives the lane first
A removals and storage firm in the county town of Dorset, working a patch that is a market town at the middle and a great deal of lane around the edges.
Where we work
Dorchester DT1 and the villages around it — Poundbury, Charminster and Charlton Down to the north, Puddletown and the Piddle valley east, Broadmayne and the ridge villages south, Martinstown and Maiden Newton west.
Weymouth and Portland proper, Bridport, Sherborne and the BCP towns are county-wide work rather than ours, and our Dorset-wide sister site covers them. We would rather point you there than cover a town in passing.
Why we drive the lane
Most of our work is rural, and out there the house is rarely the difficult part. The approach is. A full-size vehicle that cannot reach the door, with a crew standing in a lane and a completion time running, is the one outcome nobody recovers from gracefully.
So nothing rural is quoted without driving the approach — the width, the passing places, the branches, the gateway, the surface after rain, and whether there is anywhere to turn at the house. It costs nothing and it prevents the only genuinely bad day.
Our own storage
The storage is in our yard rather than bought in from someone else, and it is loaded by the same crews that pack the house. That sounds like a detail until a completion slips at four in the afternoon, at which point it is the difference between a sentence and a scramble.
Household storage between completions, during building work, and through the long middle of a downsizing move. Business storage for stock, records and equipment. Containerised, wrapped, inventoried and racked indoors in both cases.
Downsizing, honestly
A large share of what we move is people moving into something smaller, and the useful part of that job is not the carrying. It is telling you at survey what will not fit in the new place — the wardrobe that cannot go up a bungalow conversion's stairs, the dresser that is two inches wider than the new kitchen.
We would rather have that conversation in your hallway than deliver something and let you discover it. Storage is quoted alongside the move so the things you have not decided about have somewhere to go that is not a decision made under pressure.
What we say about time and cost
We quote in writing after a survey, and the written quote is the number. If something genuinely changes — a second address appears, or the chain moves — we tell you what it means before we act on it rather than after.
We do not publish prices or transit windows on this site because neither is meaningful before we have seen the job, and out here the approach can change the answer more than the contents do.
What we do not do
We do not quote before we understand the job. We do not promise a transit time we cannot stand behind. We do not take on a property without establishing that we can physically reach it. And we do not claim awards, accreditations, press coverage or customer numbers we have not got — if it is not on this site, it is because it is not true yet.
Cover
Goods in transit and storage cover are in place, with the usual conditions around owner-packed cartons and items of unusual value. Declare anything genuinely valuable at survey and we will confirm in writing what applies. The contractual position is on the terms page.
Getting hold of us
The quote form is quickest. Contact has the rest, questions covers what comes up first, and areas we cover shows exactly where our ground runs out.
Moving in or out of Dorchester?
Send both addresses and a rough idea of the volume. We come out and look — or do it on a video call if that suits you better — then quote in writing.
