Removals in Puddletown & the Piddle valley

East along the A35 and up the Piddle — Puddletown, Tolpuddle, Piddlehinton and the heathland edge of Hardy's Wessex.

East of Dorchester the A35 runs out towards Poole and the Piddle valley climbs away north from it. This is Hardy's country in the literal sense — heathland, water meadows and villages that have not changed shape in a very long time.

Puddletown

Two villages in one, for our purposes. The old core around the square and the church is tight: cottages straight onto the road, no off-street parking, and a couple of corners a long vehicle cannot take. Everything built since is post-war and modern housing with driveways, turning space and none of those problems.

The A35

Useful and inconvenient in equal measure. It gets a long move out of the area quickly, and it makes loading anywhere near it a timing exercise — a vehicle half on that carriageway is a problem for everyone behind it. Properties on or just off the main road get early starts.

Up the Piddle

Tolpuddle, Piddlehinton, Piddletrenthide and Affpuddle. Village and lane property, water meadows either side, and roads that flood on a predictable schedule after sustained rain. The approaches are checked before a vehicle is committed, and in winter we check them again on the morning.

The heathland edge

South and east towards the heath, the properties scatter. Long unmade tracks with gorse and pine close on both sides, gateways built for a farm vehicle, and surfaces that soften after a wet week. Detail on rural and village moves, which is most of what we do out here.

Nearby

Charminster is north-west and Broadmayne south.

Puddletown & the Piddle valley questions

Is Puddletown easy to work in?

The modern parts, yes — post-war and later housing with driveways and turning space. The old village around the square and the church is tight, with cottages straight onto the road and very little standing.

What about the A35?

It runs right past, which is useful for getting out and a nuisance for loading anywhere near it. Properties on or just off the main road are early-start jobs, because a vehicle half on that carriageway is a problem for everybody.

Do you cover Tolpuddle and Piddlehinton?

Yes, and Piddletrenthide and Affpuddle. Village and lane property where the approach decides the vehicle, and where several of the riverside roads flood predictably.

What is the heathland side like?

Scattered. Properties down long unmade tracks with gorse and pine either side, gateways built for a farm vehicle, and surfaces that soften quickly. Always looked at before quoting.
