Removals in Broadmayne & the Weymouth edge
South towards the coast — Broadmayne, Osmington, Owermoigne and the villages on the ridge between Dorchester and Weymouth.
South of Dorchester the land rises to the ridge and then drops towards Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast. The villages along that ridge are our southern edge, and they have a character of their own — coastal weather, downland lanes, and a high proportion of people moving at either end of their lives.
The villages
Broadmayne, West Knighton, Osmington, Bincombe, Owermoigne and Crossways. Stone and cottage property in the older cores with tight lanes and limited standing, post-war and modern housing around them with proper access, and a good deal of bungalow and retirement stock.
Downsizers
A larger share of the work here than anywhere else on our patch, and it changes what matters. The move itself is usually small. What is not small is deciding what comes, and that is where storage earns its place — somewhere for the things you have not decided about, rather than a rushed decision in a hallway on the day.
We will also say plainly at survey what will not fit in the new place. Delivering a wardrobe that cannot go up the stairs of a bungalow conversion helps nobody.
The ridge and the weather
The ridge road between Dorchester and Weymouth is steep in places and genuinely exposed. Wind matters more here than anywhere else we work — a high-sided vehicle on that ridge in a gale is a decision rather than a detail, and we will move a start time rather than push it.
Coastal properties
Their own quirks. Salt gets into ironwork and fixings so gates and hinges are not always what they were, some of the cliff-edge lanes are narrow and exposed, and a handful of properties have a last stretch that is genuinely on foot. Every one of those is looked at before quoting.
Where we stop
Weymouth and Portland proper, Bridport, Sherborne and the BCP conurbation are county-wide work rather than ours. Our sister site covers Dorset as a whole and knows those towns better than a Dorchester crew would — see areas we cover.
Broadmayne & the Weymouth edge questions
How far south do you go?
To the villages on the ridge and the coastal edge — Broadmayne, West Knighton, Osmington, Bincombe, Owermoigne and Crossways. For work properly inside Weymouth, Portland or the BCP conurbation, our county-wide sister site covers Dorset as a whole and is the better fit.
Is the ridge road a problem?
It is steep in places and exposed, which matters in wind more than most people expect. A high-sided vehicle on that ridge in a gale is a decision worth taking seriously, and we will move a start time rather than push it.
What is the housing like?
Village stone and cottage property in the older cores, post-war and modern housing around them, and a fair amount of retirement and downsizer stock given the coastal setting.
Do you do coastal properties?
Yes, and they have their own quirks: salt affects ironwork and fixings, some of the cliff-edge lanes are narrow and exposed, and access to a few properties is genuinely on foot for the last stretch. All looked at first.
